Following this, the wastewater enters a grit removal phase, preparing the water for biological treatment. Here, the water is mixed with ‘activated sludge’, a substance rich in beneficial bacteria, to break down any organic material. These processes are complemented by the latest advances in technology, ensuring efficiency and minimising environmental impact.

In addition, the Kingsbury Treatment Plant is committed to sustainability. Residual solids from the treatment process are converted into renewable biogas, which is used to generate heat and electricity.
